University Awards

Faculty Awards

Additional information about selected awards is listed below.

  • Alumni Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising.  One award is given each year for excellence in undergraduate advising. The Alumni Undergraduate Advising Award committee reviews nominations made by students, alumni, faculty, departments, or self-nominations, and selects a recipient. For guidelines click here.

 

  • Alumni Award for Excellence in Graduate Academic Advising.  One award is given each year for excellence in graduate advising. The Alumni Graduate Advising Award committee reviews nominations made by students, alumni, faculty, departments, or self-nominations, and selects a recipient.  For guidelines click here.
  • Provost’s Award for Excellence in Advising.  Recipients are awarded a cash prize and are inducted into the university’s Academy of Advising Excellence.  Additional information is found here:    http://www.advising.vt.edu/

 

  • Alumni Awards for Outreach Excellence.  The CLAHS Honors and Awards Committee makes a recommendation regarding the Award for Excellence in Outreach in the college to the Graduate School based upon the applications it receives (see Excellence in Outreach Awards under College Awards).
  • Alumni Awards for Excellence in Teaching.Winners of the College-level Certificates of Teaching Excellence for the past three years are eligible for the University-level Alumni Teaching Awards. Two awards are given each year.  Nominations to be submitted directly to the Alumni Teaching Award Committee; they are not reviewed by the CLAHS Honors and Awards Committee.  The guidelines, contact information, and deadline can be found at http://www.ate.ceut.vt.edu/AlumniGuidelines.html.

 

  • Sporn Award for Teaching Introductory Subjects.  This award is for teaching excellence in introductory subjects. One award is given each year. Nominations are received from students only, and the recipient is chosen by a student committee working within the University Provost's office.  Additional information and nomination forms are located at http://www.odk.org.vt.edu/sporn.htm.
  • William E. Wine Award.  Three awards are given each year.  Nominations in CLAHS are reviewed by the CLAHS Honors and Awards Committee.  The committee’s selected candidate is then reviewed by the University Wine Award Committee, which makes the final selection.  Guidelines can be found at http://www.ate.ceut.vt.edu/WineGuidelines.html.

 

  • XCaliber Award for Excellence in Technology Assisted Teaching and Learning.  The award recognizes individual faculty members or teams of faculty and staff who have made significant contributions toward integrating technology into teaching and learning experiences.  Details and nomination forms are located at http://www.edtech.vt.edu/cil/xcaliber.html.

Graduate Student Awards

  • Outstanding Dissertation Award, Graduate Student Teaching Excellence Award, and Graduate Student Service Excellence Award.  Nominations for these awards are to be submitted directly to Graduate School; they are not reviewed by the CLAHS Honors and Awards Committee.  The guidelines are located at

  • Outstanding Graduate Student Award.  The CLAHS Honors and Awards Committee makes a recommendation regarding the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in the college to the Graduate School based upon the applications it receives (see award description above under College Awards).
