CLAHS EXCELLENCE IN GRADUATE STUDENT ADVISING AWARD
To recognize outstanding faculty members in the advising of graduate students. Up to 3 awards will be given for CLAHS Excellence in Graduate Student Advising.
Recipient must be a CLAHS instructor, lecturer, AP (administrative and professional faculty), tenured, or tenure-track faculty member for whom the advising of graduate students is and has been an assigned responsibility for a minimum of three years and must meet the following criteria:
- Evidence of excellence in orienting graduate students to the academic field;
- Evidence of excellence in explaining policies and procedures that govern academic matters;
- Evidence of excellence in assisting graduate students with course selection;
- Evidence of excellence in assisting graduate students with career guidance and placement;
- Evidence of participation in or development of professional development activities or products for advising.
Application:
- Nomination letter from self or others highlighting nominee’s advising expertise and success (1 page maximum).
- Nominee’s statement of advising philosophy (1 page maximum)
- Summary of nominee’s advising activities including (3 pages maximum):
- Listing of the number of advisees by degree type for at least the past three years;
- Listing of nominee’s activities with respect to orientation, policies and procedures, course selection, career guidance/placement, and participation in or development of advising development activities or products.
- One or two letters of support from current or former advisees (1 page maximum each).
Letters can be either internal or external letters of support

Recognition: Plaque and $500 for professional development presented at the April 20th reception. Note: Winners are not eligible for this award for the three years after receiving it.
