CLAHS DIVERSITY AWARD

 

The Diversity Award honors faculty, staff and graduate students who have made a significant contribution to improve campus climate with regards to issues of inclusiveness at Virginia Tech.  One award will be given for diversity contributions.

Eligibility Requirement:  Nominees should meet the following minimum requirements.

  1. They should have taken a leadership role beyond the expectations of their positions to: a) improve the quality of life for diverse groups at Virginia Tech; b) plan and implement institutional change related to issues of diversity; or c) educate members of the campus community to appreciate an increasingly diverse society.

 

  1. They must be faculty members, staff members or graduate students within CLAHS.

 

A measure of preference will be given to nominees whose work on diversity may not have been previously recognized through this or similar awards.

Application: 

One nomination letter (2 pages maximum) should be accompanied by two letters of support from individuals familiar with the nominee’s contributions as well as a 2-page             (maximum) summary of the nominee’s activities.  Letters of nomination and support and the summary of activities should clearly describe the nominee’s qualifications and contributions to diversity at Virginia Tech, clearly indicating how these contributions and efforts to promote diversity go beyond the nominee’s normal job expectations. Information regarding previous awards should be included in the nomination letter.

Information about the awards are distributed to faculty/departments

January 6

Deadline for submission of one hard copy and one PDF of the complete application to Monica Rich, 260 Wallace Hall, Mail Code = 0426, mrich14@vt.edu

January 13 – March 6

Applications are reviewed and recipients are selected

March 12

Nominees are notified of award decisions (selection and non-selection)

April  20

Committee presents awards at CLAHS 2009-2010 Awards and Honors Reception in the Owens Banquet Hall from 4:00-6:00 p.m. 

Recognition:
Plaque and $1,500 for professional development presented at the April 20th reception.

Note:  Winners are not eligible for this award for the three years after receiving it.
