GRADUATE SCHOOL OUTSTANDING GRADUATE STUDENT AWARD (CLAHS Award)
Background: The VT graduate school each year acknowledges the outstanding graduate student for each college. The colleges are allowed to set their own criteria and select their own outstanding student. The CLAHS Awards Committee has established the following criteria and process for the selection of this student.
Procedure and Criteria:
- Submission of a nomination is open to anyone who wishes to nominate self or other.
- The criteria for the award will include three areas: Teaching, Research, and Outreach.
Teaching could include mentoring of undergraduate or graduate students, advising, graduate teaching assistantships, assistance with classes, and other aspects of teaching and advising.
Evidence of research could include publications, presentations, and workshop creation.
Outreach is to include work with audiences outside of the academic community of the graduate student and could include but not be restricted to extension, professional service, and community service. The committee will expect excellence in one of the three areas and activity in a second area. - The submission for nomination should include the following information: (a) a completed copy of the cover page, (b) a self-narrative statement identifying contributions to reaching, research, and/or outreach (2 pages, double spaced) (c) a vita in P & T format, and (d) names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails of three references who could be contacted.
- One or two letters of support from CLAHS faculty members that speak to the nominee’s accomplishments (1 page maximum each).
